The expert noted many important aspects related to desire of Russian leadership to modernize the Arctic.
Yaroslav Bogdanov, Chairman of Fund for Protection of Investors’ Rights in Foreign States, commented on the digital development of part of the Arctic of the Russian Federation. The expert noted many important aspects related to the desire of the Russian leadership to modernize the Arctic.
“The development of digital infrastructure will improve quality of life of the population in the region. This includes both medicine and education. Many digital state services will become available. A huge role in the modern information agenda is now dedicatedto environmental topic. It is also now closely related to digitalization, which was discussed at the last meeting of the Russian government under the leadership of the president,” Yaroslav Bogdanov said in an interview with the Information Agency “External Economic Relations”.
The expert noted that digitalization will increase relevance and reliability of monitoring – climatic, ecological and permafrost conditions. The reliability of navigation of Northern Sea Route will increase. In addition, Yaroslav Bogdanov highlighted the important role in the digitalization of fiber-optic communication lines and also Internet access via satellites.
Speaking about the US policy towards the Arctic, Bogdanov believes that Washington will abandon the use of sanctions against Russia. In his opinion, the steps of the member states of the Arctic Council, consisting of Russia, the USA, Denmark, Canada, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, will be rational and balanced.
“The Arctic Council is responsible for the entire region, including the climate agenda. Climate change in the Arctic inevitably leads to climate change in all other regions of the planet. Digitalization in this regard will greatly simplify monitoring, which will make it possible to make timely global decisions. The application of sanctions by one country against another in these conditions will prevent sustainable development of the Arctic,” said Yaroslav Bogdanov.
