Yaroslav Bogdanov: In the USA there was a discussion of interaction between the state and IT-industry
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and his colleague from Nvidia Corp Jensen Huang met with senior officials of the US administration. The meeting, which took place within the walls of the White House, was attended by other leaders in the emerging technology industry.
The purpose of the meeting held was to discuss steps to address the serious demand for infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) projects.
Among those invited to participate in this panel discussion were the names of the heads of Anthropic, Google, Amazon.com and Microsoft Corp. State was represented at the level of the Secretaries of Commerce and Energy, as well as the National Security Advisor.
The White House released an official statement following the event. It said an interagency task force will be established to promote the development of data centers in the U.S. and initiatives to support expedited permitting for these facilities. The moves are aimed at ensuring that the U.S. maintains its leadership in artificial intelligence, where rapid progress requires significant investment in data centers and power supply.
GDA Group Yaroslav Bogdanov noted that this is not the first high-level meeting of its kind to discuss the future of the U.S. innovation industry.
“Previous visits of IT industry representatives to the U.S. Administration were held behind closed doors and it was possible to get an idea of any agreements only from modest reports of the invited persons. This time definite outcomes were announced to the public. This suggests that the United States has taken a clear course to not just seize the initiative in the development of the global cyber industry, but to have it under its control. This is indicated by the fact that the authorities have committed themselves to taking specific steps towards the industry,” said Yaroslav Bogdanov.
Thus, one of the results of the meeting was the decision that the U.S. Department of Energy will deal with tax incentives and loans for representatives of the IT industry. In addition, plans will be implemented to modernize the energy system to meet the growing demand.
“The future of humanity is inextricably linked to the development of digital technologies. We are already witnessing how artificial intelligence, big data and the Internet of Things are transforming familiar processes, making them more efficient and accessible. Digital technologies are not just opening up new horizons for business and creativity, they are creating opportunities for solving global problems – from reforming the model of economic relations to environmental monitoring. Thus, the future of humanity will be shaped by technology. The steps of the US authorities towards the IT-industry show that this state has realized that it is digital innovations that will be the basis for progress and prosperity,” said Yaroslav Bogdanov.
